Pelham Cares had been searching for a permanent facility for nearly 30 years. With minimal assured income, we had been living with a 90-day escape clause in all of our rental agreements. The lease for the current location was up in August 2014 and could not be extended. We were unable to find another suitable rental which would be affordable, accessible and large enough for our needs. As a result, the Board made the decision to purchase.
To ensure our long term sustainability in this new location, the 'Home for Good' Capital Campaign was initiated in 2014. Pelham Cares 1st ever fund raising event, the Gala For Good was held, in addition to numerous events run by members of our community. Events such as Rotary Mudfest Challenge 2014, the Kinsmen Home & Leisure Show, and the Fall into Fashion Show sponsored by Miller Restoration, allowed us to increase our capital fundraising to approximately $250,000 by year-end 2014. We are now comfortably settled into our new home! The move into the new facility went extremely well due to the dedication of our volunteers. We continued servicing our clients throughout. Improvements to our new home were started in 2014 & continued into 2015, in thanks to various granting organization and foundations as follows: New outdoor sign, and indoor shelving (Niagara Community Foundation), new main floor flooring (Brian Iggulden of Michael's Flooring ), upgraded lighting upper & lower levels (Erwin Taylor Charitable Foundation & Ontario Trillium Foundation), upper level painting (FCC AgriSpirit & Ontario Trillium Foundation), construction of Client Services Coordinator office & improved access to electric lift (Erwin Taylor Charitable Foundation & Ontario Trillium Foundation), improved garage landing (Ontario Trillium Foundation) and new fully accessible front door (Ontario Trillium Foundation). Our capital campaign will continue 2016 (see press release below), raising funds to help us to continue to offset our capital expenditures.
