Three local organizations will be making sure that Pelham Cares clients have fresh fruits and vegetables in their food hampers this season! They have each purchased one share of the Community Supported Agriculture Program at Rumar Farms. This will result in baskets of Rumar Farm produce being donated to Pelham Cares for 18 weeks, from June through September.

Over 50 bags of food and the monetary donations were collected during their recent Holiday Food Drive and Fundraiser. The response from our community never ceases to amaze us! Three truck loads of non-perishable food was received yesterday from AK Wigg Elementary School and Glynn A Green Elementary School! Thank you to all who donated, the staff and students at the schools, Pelham Care volunteers, teachers, students and parents who helped unload the food yesterday. Nicolle Lalonde of Edward Jones Investments Fonthill presented Lori Grande of Pelham Cares the proceeds of their recent Holiday Open House & Charity Drive. Ornaments were mailed to clients prior to the season, and for each ornament returned during the open house, Nicolle donated $5. Clients were encouraged to bring along non-perishable food items and individual donations. Food items and $325 in monetary donations were received.

Brian Cosby of the Niagara OPP Auxiliary presented $1,255 in Sobeys gift cards and over 1,000 lbs of food donations to Tracy Holmwood and Keith Moore of Pelham Cares! These are the proceeds of the recent food drive (December 3rd) held at Sobeys Fonthill. The OPP Auxiliary members hold food drives twice a year, at 5 local Sobeys stores, with proceeds staying in each respective community. The packages were prepared at a recent event, where thousands of packages were prepared by Rotary representatives from Canada and the United States, for distribution at local food banks, and internationally. As a result of a grant received from the Niagara Community Foundation, Pelham Cares has purchased new food collection bins, storage bins and a portable table which will be used at community events, and in our office for project work. It was a very entertaining evening this past Saturday, the annual Mayor's Gala Committee presented "Night of the Dragon". Pelham Cares' treasurer Sandra Warden (far right) was on hand to represent Pelham Cares, one of the recipients of the funds raised during the evening. $5,000 will assist us in providing sponsorships for Pelham youth, in sports, recreational and educational activities. The Fonthill Kinsmen recently donated $3878.88 to Pelham Cares, the amount received from door proceeds of the recent Pelham Home and Garden Show. The show saw a 39% increase over last years attendance, and there is much enthusiasm in the planning stages of next years show. An amazing job done by Mr. Triano and the Grade 6 students of AKWigg Elementary School, on their Annual Christmas Challenge! As you can see, response from the community was fantastic again this year. Mr. Triano and 8 students assisted many Pelham Cares volunteers in transporting the donated items to our office and into our lower storage area. And a thank you to Ron Kore of Sobeys for again providing the grocery bags.
Many Pelham families will enjoy healthy food hampers in the coming months, as a result of this effort!
Brian Cosby of the OPP Auxiliary presented Lori Grande of Pelham Cares, $960 in Sobeys gift cards. This was in addition to approximately 1,349 lbs of food, the result of their annual Food Drive at the Fonthill Sobeys. Thank you to all members of the OPP Auxiliary for spending their day at many local Sobeys stores, and of course to all of the generous donors who made this possible!
Hailey Marr visited our office this morning..she has been very busy collecting donations for the families in our community needing a bit of help this Holiday Season! She collected over $100 from the riders and staff at Grandview Farms. Thank you Hailey for your kindness!

Tis' The Season to Show you Care...a wonderful fundraising event held last night, by Nancy Pye and Tammy Willard, was a huge success again this year! Many local women enjoyed an evening of wine, food, and prizes, resulting in a donation of over $1,700 to Pelham Cares! In addition, $2,000 of food items, toys, and personal care items, was donated as a result of an event held by Quality ReadyMix - Lafarge Canada. Thank you to Nancy and Tammy, and all of those who attended.

Back to School will be much brighter for the children of many local families, thanks to the efforts of The Independent Riders! Their annual donation of school supplies was presented to Pelham Cares at their final Bike Night of 2015. Fundraising takes place throughout the year, ending in this very generous donation! This year they prepared 30 packages including backpacks, pencil cases, and many other supplies. We appreciate their ongoing support, and could not do it without them!

Thank you to Pelham Medical Associates for their wonderful delivery last Thursday....four backpacks filled with school supplies and snacks! This was their way of recognizing World Humanitarian day, which was August 19th. We appreciate their generous donation to our 'back-to-school' program...and know that this will help to make it a happier return to school for children of the families we support.

Pelham Cares recently received a very generous donation from Fonthill Sobeys! As a result of the recent renovation, Sobeys donated over $25,000 in grocery and personal care items. Ron Kore of Sobeys commented that is important to support families in our community, ensuring that this donation came directly to Pelham Cares. In one day, staff at Sobeys and volunteers from Pelham Cares worked together to pack and move items from Sobeys to the Pelham Cares location, which was no small feat!
This donation comes at a time of year that food bank shelves are in need of replenishing.

Thank you to the family and staff of DeVries Fruit Farm of Fenwick, donations were received this past Saturday at their annual Strawberry Festival. Over $400 and many buckets of food were generously donated by the customers. Our volunteers enjoyed spending the day preparing and assisting in serving the complementary strawberries and ice cream. A big Pelham Cares THANK YOU to the team at Duliban Insurance! Pelham Cares was their charity of choice in 2014. The year started with their first annual golf tournament, and a donation to Pelham Cares Capital Campaign for over $5,400! They then joined in to assist with food sorting at the Pelham Community Food Drive in December. This week, a donation of over $1,800 was presented...funds were raised on their 'Jeans Fridays', and through group lottery wins! This brings their total donated from 2014 to over $7,200!

Reed Snowpek visited our office this morning (March 3rd)...he recently celebrated his 7th birthday, and asked his guests to provide a donation to Pelham Cares in lieu of gifts! He chose Pelham Cares as he wanted to help others in his community! Reed presented the donation to Beth Cotter of Pelham Cares.
We explained to Reed that when the food on our shelves starts to get low, we would use his donation to purchase additional food...which would be given to families in need, in Pelham. Thank you to Reed and all of his guests for their generosity!

Frank Adamson, President Elect, and Tia Taylor, President of the Fonthill Rotary Club stopped by our office recently to see the new commercial cooler and freezer. These items were purchased as a result of a donation of $4,000.00, 1/2 from ...the Rotary Club of Fonthill and 1/2 from a District Grant from Rotary International. This new equipment will help Pelham Cares to accept and store produce, eggs and other fresh foods for our clients. Members of TD Bank recently participated in a team building event, Putt-ing People First. Teams earned resources such as non-perishable food items, to create a putting green.
